Park Update
|
The Friends of Montgomery Street Park (FoMSP) committee have been working on a few projects in the park over the past few months. Here’s a summary of what we've been up to:

Play Park Development
FoMSP have been planning a new play park design for a few years now. A public consultation was held pre-covid, which is the guidance we’re using to inform planning. The City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) gave us a draft proposal, which was quite different to what the public said they wanted. This has meant progress has been slower than hoped. There is now an in-principle agreement in place for more natural materials and equipment for older children. The sticking point is still the helter skelter and it is now for FoMSP to prove that the structure can be saved. It is intended that the costs of securing the space could be included in the CEC project and FoMSP can pay for the stripping, certification and painting of the helter skelter. FoMSP has also been discussing painting with CEC of structures that are to be retained and also the steps.

A committee member has been working on a plan to paint the steps with a mural.

FoMSP would like to develop a visual of the planned play park that can be shared, once the CEC agrees to a plan in line with the public’s response.

Park Development
FoMSP members continue to engage with the CEC park officer to look at what planting and improvements can be made to the park. FoMSP has drawn a draft vision and will start sharing this with the public in the noticeboard, at FoMSP events and on social media.

FoMSP are ready to resume regular litter pick/planting days starting Tuesday 14 September 2021 from 4-5pm, we will continue to meet on Tuesdays and review in a few weeks.
|
It’s time to plant the trees provided by Edible Estates. Planning for this will begin. The apple trees need pruning, a FoMSP member will connect with Leith Crofters to run a workshop.

Halloween party
Planning is underway for the return of our FoMSP annual event. It will be on Sunday 31st October from 6-7pm (Covid restrictions permitting). Donations of prizes from local businesses are very welcome. If you’d like to be involved, or would like to offer supplies, please email us at: [email protected]
